What to Consider When Purchasing a Cement Mixer
Electric vs Petrol Cement Mixer
First, you’ll need to consider whether you will need an electric cement mixer or a petrol cement mixer. The most suitable option for you will depend whether you have a power source nearby, or want to run your generator.
Generally, petrol cement mixers are more powerful and robust. They cope better with higher volumes of cement compared to electronic models. Another advantage is that no electric connection or generator is required for power. Making the petrol concrete mixer perfect for use on construction sites that are not yet connected to power.
But, if you’re looking for a light weight compact mixer, you’ll need an electric concrete mixer. The electric models are cheaper both at initial purchase and with running cost. As no fuel or petrol is required the maintenance is minimal. Electric mixers are handy for tradesmen who like to travel light.
Tank Size
All concrete mixers come with a rotatable tank. The size of this tank will determine how much cement you are able to produce at a time. Manufacturers refer to the volumes as ‘tank volume’, or ‘mixing volume’. These who measurements are the same.
To best understand the capacity of the cement mixer, follow this simple rule:
– the capacity will produce 80% the volume. For example, a 150-litre mixer will produce 120 litres of cement. This is the equivalent of 2 wheelbarrows each load.
– Size does matter. But if you intend to do most of your work indoors the smaller tank electric models will best suit your needs.
