Hedge Trimmers Canberra
With a hedge trimmer, it’s easy to keep your hedges, and therefore your yard or garden, looking fresh and fantastic all year round. Hedge trimmers are more heavy duty tools than other trimmers. They are designed for shaping hedges and bushes, as well as cutting back branches where needed.
What sets these trimmers apart from other trimmer types is their design, because they look more like a chainsaw rather than something like a line trimmer. Instead of a chain, however, hedge trimmers have metal teeth sticking out of both sides of the cutter blade. When you start up the trimmer, those teeth start quickly moving back and forth, which is what lets you get to cutting. As a result, you can easily cut through branches and trim your hedges and other bushes, shaping them to perfection.
The maintenance of your hedges can be a large and important task, so you always want to make sure you’ve got the right tool for the job. And here at Canberra Mower Suppliers, we have high quality hedge trimmers for sale right now!
You might also know these tools as ‘hedgers’ or ‘hedge cutters’.
Types of Hedge Cutters
Like many types of powered garden equipment, hedge trimmers are available in both battery and petrol operated models. Professionals tend to prefer petrol hedge trimmers because they can produce more power. With a petrol model, you also don’t need to wait for batteries to recharge, or have spares – just refuel and off you go again.
Battery hedge trimmers are often better for domestic use, as often you will not be working on large areas. These cordless trimmers are quieter and more lightweight, and require less maintenance, compared to petrol equivalents. They also produce zero direct emissions!
Both types have their benefits, so you just need to figure out which power source best suits your needs.
Beyond the type of power you’re using, there are three main hedge trimmer designs to choose from. You want to make sure you’re looking at the right trimmer for the tasks you want to get done.
Single Sided
Single sided trimmers only have teeth on one side of the cutting bar. This means the bar can be longer without adding more weight than a double sided trimmer. Because of this design, you can cut through more of the hedge at once, making these single sided hedgers great for straight sections that just need some general work done.
Double Sided
Double sided hedge trimmers are probably the type you’ve seen the most often, with teeth on both sides of the bar. These cutters are perfect for shaping your bush or hedge and are best suited for areas going up to chest height. They also have a rear handle that is adjustable, so as to give you more flexibility while you trim. This adjusting handle also lets you ergonomically cut hedge sides and other awkward spots.
Pole Design
If you need to trim hedges that are high or low down, a pole hedge trimmer might be perfect for you. These are incredibly versatile trimmers, because they feature telescopic poles and articulated cutting bars. This means that the pole’s length and the bar’s angle can both be adjusted for the task at hand. All in all, pole hedge cutters let you get at each and every hard to reach spot with no issues.
Choosing the Right Hedger
There are several important aspects to consider when trying to decide which hedge trimmer you want. Here are a few things to think about:
- What height will you be working at? Are your hedges low, long or high?
- Do you want to shape your hedges or just trim them down?
- How large or small is the area you’re working in?
- Do you need to reach high areas?
- How does your budget look?
- Where do you plan to store the trimmer? How much space do you have?
Each of these questions might help you narrow down what the best hedge cutter is for your area.
