Wood Chippers Canberra

Wood chippers make it easy to deal with all the foliage and plant clutter that comes about when you’re working. Whether it’s a garden or backyard, or a larger area that requires a professional touch, a woodchipper can be of great help.

A woodchipper efficiently and easily breaks down prunings, branches and other bits and pieces into a single pile of chip. This chip pile is easier to move around and deal with, and can be repurposed or stockpiled.

Woodchippers make it easier to get through the day’s work and save you on both time and energy. So, one of these machines is not just helpful but also a good investment. This is especially true in the winter months, when we’d all rather bundle up and stay inside than getting hard work done out in the cold.

Tree chippers take away the task of gathering up and throwing away all the trimmings and let you focus on just getting the job done. With easy and intuitive operations and automatic, self feeding mechanisms, you can take a well deserved rest and let the chipper do the work.

How Does a Wood Chipper Work?

With the press of a button or pull of a lever – depending on the model you have – your tree chipper will easily start up. Once the chipper is running, just chuck your foliage and other plant matter into the inlet chute. Your high quality woodchipper will then use its internal blades to chop up the wood and leafage into tiny pieces, known as chip.

Each woodchipper has its own inlet chute size, which determines how big of a branch or trimming you can insert. The larger your chute, the more you can put in.

Some chippers, including our four models from Hansa, use something known as a gravity feed for automatic chipping. What this means is that when you turn on the chipper, the cutting disc inside will start rotating until it reaches such a high speed that it’s able to keep itself spinning on its own. These high speeds – 1800 to 3600 rpm depending on your chipper’s size – create a draft, pulling foliage down from the opening chute. So once you put something into the running chipper, you don’t really need to do anything else to it! The chipper will drag the cuttings down into the blades and turn it into chip with no trouble.

How to Choose the Right Wood Chipper

If you’re thinking about buying a tree chipper, you may not be sure what exactly to look for. Here are a few things that you might want to consider when looking at your options:

  • What size of prunings, branches and other foliage are you expecting to need to chip?
  • Are you chipping in a single residential area, a commercial area, going between multiple locations, or something else?
  • Do you want a smaller chipper that you can move yourself, or a larger acreage chipper that needs towing?
  • If you want a big chipper that needs towing, what is the towing capacity of your vehicle?
  • What does your budget look like?

You might also want to consider how you’ll store your chipper, and how you want to manage your chip piles.

With all of these things in mind, you’re sure to find the best wood chipper for your needs.
