It’s hard to imagine a time without power, and as many builders know, there are times where electric generators are needed before the build is finalised.

Generators use the power from their petrol or diesel engine (mechanical energy) and converts it into electrical power. They come in many sizes and can be used to power up tools, fridges, farm equipment, and can be very useful in a power outage. With one on hand you can continue your daily activities and not have any disruption of your business operations.

They provide power wherever and whenever you need it – at home, in the garden, on the road, at an event…wherever.

Choosing the right size and model for your specific circumstances is so important. But if you’re planning on having an portable generator for emergencies then figuring out what tools you might need can be hard.

Petrol Generators

Four stroke petrol generators are a great option. Whether you want a small generator or a large one, 4 stroke petrol generators come in a range of sizes.

A petrol generator is also cheaper to buy, runs quieter, and let off less carbon dioxide than a diesel generator.

Petrol powered generators also hold up well with infrequent use, which is important for those who have one as a back up power supply in times of power outage.

Inverter Generator

An inverter generator has a more technology to it than a standard generator. When a standard generator produces power, the voltage and Herz fluctuates causing surges or ‘spikes’. This is called harmonic distortion. Now this distortion in energy is fine for a lot of tools, but there are some electrical appliances that are more sensitive like mobile phones and laptops and need protection from an inverter generator.

Inverter generators stabilise the current. So if you are wanting to power up your laptop or mobile phone, you will want to look for an inverter generator.

They are also quieter, lower weight and greater fuel efficiency when compared to traditional models.

These are ideal if you’re caravanning, camping or hitting the road in your 4WD.

What size is best?

They come in a range of sizes. For camping and small power tools a small generator like the 2.4kw Cromtech Outback Inverter Generator is perfect.

For construction tools and higher power demands you need to look at bigger models. The most popular sizes for construction being a 3kva generator, 5kva generators, 8kva generators, and 12kva.
