When would you replace a pull start spring?
A recoil start (also called manual start, starter assembly, pull start or rewind start) is a method of starting an internal combustion engine. These are usually on small machines, such as cement mixers, brick saws, generators, compactors etc which use a Honda GX120, GX 140, GX160 or GX200 motor
Within the recoil starter assembly there is a spring and it’s job is to retract the pull start cord back into the casing. There are a number of things that can cause the recoil starter to fail.
– The tension spring can move out of position within the casing and just needs to be realigned.
– The tension spring can break.
– The casing holding the spring can break.
How to fix a pull start spring?
The simplest way to fix your recoil starter in all of these situations is to buy a complete starter recoil assembly and just replace the whole part. But if you are a bit more experienced, then you can take the starter recoil assembly apart and fix the spring. Just beware, they can be a bit tricky!
We have many different sizes of pull starts and can special order what you need if this is not quite right for you. Just call on 02 6242 8996
